Studies of Religion is traditionally a popular subject at Covenant and is for you if…

How many units is Studies of Religion?

You can choose either 1 or 2 units of study.  This is a good option to consider if you need a one unit course that is not an extension subject.

Year 11 is the Preliminary course and Year 12 is the HSC course.

You can drop down to 1 unit for the HSC course but 2 unit relies on Preliminary content.

What will we study?

Content of SOR I (2 lessons per week)

  • What is religion? 
  • Judaism
  • Christianity (including different variants)
  • Religion in Australia after 1945

Content of SOR II (4 lessons per week)

  • What is religion? 
  • Judaism
  • Christianity (including different denominations)
  • Islam 
  • Ancient religions such as the Aztec and Celtic religions 
  • Religion in Australia before and after 1945
  • Non-religious and modern worldviews

How does this relate to life after school?

This subject teaches important academic skills, as well as giving you a well-rounded understanding of religion in our world today through course work and discussion. Furthermore, this subject prepares you to meet and interact with people of various backgrounds and belief systems after school.

Studies of Religion develops useful skills such as:

  • understanding other perspectives
